Main Street Alliance launches partnership with UNITE, conducting outreach to small businesses in North Carolina, Virginia

Students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities canvass small business owners

DURHAM, N.C. – Main Street Alliance (MSA) launched a partnership with UNITE on June 15. Through this partnership, Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) students are canvassing local small businesses to encourage participation in the 2022 mid-term elections. Students are on the ground in Norfolk, Va., Durham and Winston-Salem, N.C., collecting commitments from small business owners to vote in the upcoming mid-term election.

“We are excited to partner with and train a new generation of main street economy organizers,” said Chanda Causer, Executive Director at Main Street Alliance. “They have shown great interest and passion for ensuring that underrepresented communities can drive policies that improve and sustain the local economy.”

Through this partnership, Main Street Alliance aims to connect with 500 business owners across the three communities. Small business owners are critically important to communities and our democracy and consistently rank among the most trusted institution in the U.S. according to Gallup.
